Why read this?
This first post explains my take on that.
Who writes this?
A long time systems guy, software developer and digital nomad. Lived much of my life with one foot in the Future. A bright and powerful place to live, and I have some history of success there. Started building in my first computer in 1959. Developed the first personal computer spelling checker in 1981. Wrote my first hypertext software in 1986, a few years before the World Wide Web.
Bernard in 1986. The laptop under my arm was the first one you could carry that way, the Tandy 100.
I was flying from Vancouver to the UK to do a gig touring AI labs in the UK. Looking at the possible use of their research in industry. (See the Alvey programme on Wikipedia). My digital nomad roots go deep. Glad they now have a name for the lifestyle.
I believe there is still a bright Future out there, even if we are working hard to avoid it. I do believe there is no simple path there, no one true way. Understanding the many stories of our complex world, and collectively exploring them is the path forward. I hope to make a small contribution with this blog.
